Either/Orchestra’s guiding force has been Russ Gershon, composer and tenor/soprano player. Gershon has led the group to achieve a balance between serious musicianship, respect for jazz tradition, and a quirky and sometimes off the wall sense of humor. Either/Orchestra issued six CDs between 1987 and 1996 on Gershon’s Accurate Records label. These included Radium (1988), The Half Life of Desire (90), The Calculus of Pleasure (1992), The Brunt (94) and Across the Omniverse (1996), a ten year retrospective of previously unreleased material. Gershon trumpeter Tom Halter, and trombonist Russell Jewell were present on all these recordings. Alto/baritone Saxophonist Charlie Kohlhase also appears on all these recordings. He made his debut appearance on Radium. Several notable musicians left the band during the first decade. These included John Medeski as keyboardist, Matt Wilson as drummer, Curtis Hasselbring as trombonist, Josh Roseman, Curtis Hasselbring and Andrew d’Angelo respectively.
