Elek Bacsik

Elek Bacsik, 22 May 1926-14 Feb 1993), was a Hungarian guitarist and jazz violinist. Bacsik, who was probably of Gypsy descent, studied at the Budapest Conservatory. However, he found his primary musical inspiration in Dizzy Gillespie or Charlie Parker. He was a Parisian in the 1960s, where he recorded two albums of guitar music and worked with Serge Gainsbourg to create the album “Confidentiel” and then in Las Vegas in 1967. Bacsik recorded with Gillespie’s Dizzy in the French Riviera (1962), and then he performed on violin at the Newport Jazz Festival 1974. His bebop playing of the violin is featured on his albums I Love You (1974), and Bird and Dizzy, A Musical Tribute (1975). Text contributed by users is available under Creative Commons By–SA License.
