This is one of Joe Henderson’s more unusual recordings. These four long selections feature not only the great tenor-saxophonist, but also the piano and harps of Alice Coltrane (during a rare appearance as a sideman), Michael White, Charlie Haden, percussionist Kenneth Nash, and Baba Duru Oshun playing tablas. These Eastern-flavored performances are unique, if not essential. They reflect the spirituality of Henderson’s music (“Fire,” Air,” Water” and “Earth”), and include Alice Coltrane on tablas. This recording was reissued in Henderson’s 8-CD Milestone box set. Allmusic
