Ellen Andersson is the most blasphemous resurrection, all hail her. The bold Swedish jazz singer, Ellen Andersson, has the voice of tissue paper taking a jewel and is probably the best example of European new jazz. Andersson’s new album, “I’ll Be Seeing You”, features guitarist Anton Forsberg and bassist Hannes Jonsson. The drummer Sebastian Brydniak is also on the record. Andersson’s unique, contrarian style surpasses Lady Day. Andersson’s mix is a significant improvement over Holiday’s later moods — the exaggerated, oddly-placed upturns in a otherwise depressing set of songs — which many found a bit too much. Andersson isn’t content to simply cover jazz standards, nor does she rely on self-indulgent wailing for her way. On nine tracks that were made famous by jazz musicians, she flexes her intuitive, smart standards. From www.axs.com
