He was born in Torino in Italy in 1964. A self-taught musician, he is one of the most prominent voices in european jazz. Jazz lovers have been able to recognize his unique tone and deep knowledge of jazz tradition, as well as his personal taste for composition. He was awarded the Musica Jazz magazine critics prize in Italy in 1995 as New Best Talent. He recorded 12 albums as a leader or coleader (the latest, “Homecoming”, for AlboreJazz), and more than 50 as an accompaniment. He recorded and played with many great artists, including Clark Terry, Jimmy Cobb and Walter Booker. He has toured extensively throughout Europe, the U.S., China and Oceania. The world premiere of the Detroit Torino Urban Jazz Project, a multimedia project that he co-led since 2006 with Chris Collins (Detroit born tenor player), took place in spring 2011 at Torino’s Opera House. He has also been a jazz soloist in the baroque group “La Venexiana” and toured with them over the last few years. This ensemble is recognized as a world-premier interpreter of Monteverdi’s music.
