Emie Rioux-Roussel is originally from Montreal (Quebec), Canada. She was adopted to Rimouski by her parents who were musicians and singers. At five years old, she began learning classical piano and continued to study until she was thirteen. After a two-year gap, she returned to jazz piano with Martin Roussel, her father. She would follow his example until she began her studies at St-Laurent college, under the direction of Lorraine Desmarais. Emie received the college’s “Very high distinction” grant and completed her diploma in jazz pianist performance. Emie, who was studying jazz piano performance with Luc Beaugrand at Universite de Montreal, received her bachelor’s degree in May 2011 and made her debut in 2008. She has been a teacher and accompanist at Rimouski College in Rimouski (Quebec) since then. She was awarded the CALQ Award in June 2015 for the Bas-St-Laurent region (Creator-of-the-Year). Emie was fortunate to share the stage alongside many renowned Canadian musicians such as Terry Clarke and Mike Gauthier, Eric Lagace (Creator of the Year), Dave Watts, Norman Lachapelle, Frederic Alarie, Norman Lachapelle, Eric Lagace, Dave Watts and Norman Lachapelle. She was also accompanied by Yannick Rieu, saxophonist, and Elizabeth Shepherd in a concert at the 35th Montreal Jazz Fest. This show was recorded by Radio-Canada. It was broadcast on Ici Musique radio. She has performed with artists like Bruno Pelletier and Marco Calliari as well as Carolanne D’Astous Paquet on the pop scene. She was guest pianist on an episode of Radio-Canada’s “Penelope Mcquade” in June 2014. She is a Canadian Nord Artist (Keyboards) since 2016. Emie R Roussel Trio was founded in 2010 by her. It produced her first album, Temps Inegal, that year. The Emie R Roussel Trio won the Stingray Rising Stars Award at 2018 TD Halifax Jazz Festival for their third album Quantum. They also received the 2015 Felix prize for jazz album and the 2013-14 Opus prize in jazz album for their previous release, TRANSIT. Since 2010, the Emie R Roussel Trio have experienced a meteoric rise and are now a formidable force in Canadian jazz. The trio of Emie R Roussel, Nicolas Bedard, Dominic Cloutier, and Dominic Cloutier, deliver captivating, creative jazz with unmistakable chemistry. The Trio has had the honor to perform their music in 11 countries on four continents over the years. Intersections, the fourth album by the trio was released in September 2017. It was nominated for Album Of The Year – Jazz at the l’ADISQ 2018.
