Ernest Turner

Ernest Turner’s motto is “searching to find the ever-elusive musical truth.” The North Carolina native began learning piano lessons from his mother when he was four years old. He then went on to study jazz at New Orleans University, where he earned his master’s degree in jazz studies and his bachelor’s degree in jazz studies at Loyola University. His professional career spans twenty years. He has performed with many great artists including Adonis Rose and Brice Winston, John Ellis and Frank Foster. He has been active in Jazz education and performed many music clinics/educational performances. He also served on the East Carolina University faculty from 2006 to 2010. Ernest is involved with many musical projects, including “My Americana”, a newly released album of trio music. He also has several recordings as a sideman, including “A Legendary Christmas” by John Legend. His most recent highlights include Monk @ 100, a ten day event hosted by Duke Performances to celebrate Thelonious Monk’s 100th birthday. Joshua Redman and Jason Moran were also performing artists.
