Ernie Carson, December 4, 1937 – January 9, 2012. He was an American Dixieland Jazz Revival cornetist, pianist and singer. He was born in Portland. Carson began playing trumpet in elementary school. He was a member of the Castle Jazz Band during the mid-1950s, before he joined the U.S. Marines. After this, he spent time in Los Angeles working with Jig Adams and Ray Bauduc. He also led many of his own groups, including the Capital City Jazz Band, and a newer version of the Castle Jazz Band. After twenty-plus years playing in Atlanta, he returned to Oregon in 1995.
