Ethel Waters

Ethel Waters, October 31, 1896 – September 1 1977 was an Oscar-nominated American singer and actress of blues. She was the second African American ever to be nominated in Academy Awards. Waters performed jazz, big-band, gospel, and other popular music at concerts and on Broadway. Her most well-known recording is her rendition of “His Eye Is on the Sparrow”, a spiritual song.
