Steven Ellison, also known as Flying Lotus, is an experimental music producer from Los Angeles. He is the great-nephew and great-grandson of Alice Coltrane (jazz pianist), who was the wife of John Coltrane. He is also the cousin to musician Ravi Coltrane. One of his main influences are the productions by J Dilla, a hip-hop producer. Flying Lotus has four studio albums, Los Angeles (2008) and Cosmogramma (2010). All of them were critically acclaimed. He is responsible for much of the music featured on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming block. He has also remixed for other Plug Research artists, including Mia Doi Todd.
