Fourth World

Airto Moreira, Brazil’s most well-known percussionist (b. 5 August 1941, Itaiopolis (Brazil). Known as a sideman to Miles Davis and Chick Corea, Airto Moreira is best known for his work with jazz legends Miles Davis and Miles Davis. Fourth World was formed in the late 1980s by his return to the traditional sounds he grew up in Curitiba in Parana State, Brazil. He had previously played in a variety of bossa-nova groups before he moved to the USA in 1968. Fourth World also includes his partner, Flora Purim (b. 6 March 1942, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), Jose Neto (b. 1954, Sao Paulo (Brazil), Jose Neto (b. Although their live activities were somewhat limited by Neto’s main occupation as Harry Belafonte’s musical director, they went to England in August 1992 to perform five weeks of engagements in Ronnie Scott’s clubs, in London and Birmingham.
