François Carrier

Born June 5, 1961. Instrument: Sax, alto Alto, and soprano Saxophonist. Francois Carrier won the Juno Award in March 2001 for the “Best Contemporary Jazz Album”. Francois Carrier has participated in many jazz festivals throughout his 30-year musical career, including the “Festival de Jazz de Montreux”, “Jazz a Vienne”, in France, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. He also played at the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Vancouver Jazz Festival. Francois spent six months at the Quebec Studio in Rome in 2002, where he crafted new music and learned about the Italian musical scene. Francois has so far released 19 CDs that have been widely acclaimed on both sides of the Atlantic. Francois has recorded and played with jazz legends like Paul Bley, Gary Peacock and Tomasz Stanko. He also has recordings with Pierre Cote, Jean-Jacques Avenel and Sonny Greenwich. Francois and Michel have toured together on numerous occasions throughout Europe, Asia, and Canada. FMR Records, a British label, released “Kathmandu”, a recording of the extraordinary performance that was recorded in Nepal in October 2006. Leo Records released “Within”, Carrier’s 11th album, in June 2008. It featured Michel Lambert and Jean-Jacques Avenel, French bassists. Ayler Records published a Digital Box Set with 7 live recordings in August that featured Carrier’s different groups. Creative Sources Recordings, a Portuguese label, released “Nada”, a stunning studio recording duo album. Francois will appear as Veronique Dubois, a Swiss Improv signer, on a new ColyaKooMusic/Leo records release entitled “Being With”.
