Frank Carlberg

Frank Carlberg, a Finnish-born composer and pianist, has developed a musical vision that combines elements of Thelonious Mingus and Charles Mingus with modern classical and avant-garde influences. He has been honored with numerous awards and performed around the globe with George Garzone, Ron McClure and the Either/Orchestra. He also taught at Berklee College of Music and Oulunkyla Jazz Conservatory. Blind Drive was Carlberg’s 1993 debut as a leader. In 1994, Ugly Beauty was recorded with Christine Correa. Crazy Woman, a quintet session, was recorded in 1996. Variations on A Summer Day, Carlberg’s 2000 ambitious effort, is a song-cycle for jazz ensemble, voice, and piano based entirely upon a Wallace Stevens poem. Allmusic
