Fumi Tomita, a bassist, composer, educator, and musician, was active in New York’s jazz scene for more than fifteen years. He performed with Sheila Jordan and Christian Sands, Luis Perdomo and Dave Liebman. His CDs include “Untold”, an album of original compositions and “Impromptu”, which features a trio playing standards on the piano. Origin Records will release his newest recording “The Elephant Vanishes”: Jazz Interpretations from the Short Stories by Haruki Murakami. He has presented his research at the Jazz Education Network (BasEurope), Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MAMEA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAME). Jazz Perspectives will publish his article on Charlie Haden, bassist. It is entitled “As Long as There’s Music: Spirituality In Charlie Haden’s Performancle u0026 Solo on ‘Irene”. NAfME and Rowman will publish his book, “The Jazz Rhythm Section”.
