Gadi Caplan is an Israeli-born, Brooklyn-based composer who uses psychedelic drones and modes to create a progressive fusion between world music and songs that are free from formulas and labels. Although most progressive rock today is more metal-based, Caplan’s latest album Morning Sun combines the power and complexity of 70’s music with the changing nature of classical music. Two albums by Caplan, Opposite Views (2011), and Look Back, Step Forward (2013) were well-received by Jazz and Rock communities. They received positive reviews from many magazines and radio play from stations across the country, including New York, Texas, California, England, Belgium and Germany. The albums were praised by critics with comments such as “Fantastically arranged and penned work by an undiscovered genius” and “Delectable stuff, “opposite Views” is the prog album that will be remembered for decades to come. In 2014, Caplan joined the NYC-based band The Weeping Willards to play lead guitar. Caplan and Danny Abowd, Willards’ singer/composer, found unexpected musical success through this new venture. They began to work together on Caplan’s sketches, and in a matter of months had written five new songs. The Morning Sun sessions included two more compositions from Caplan, as well as a collaboration with Dylan Jackson (an InnerCombustion bandmate). These songs were recorded and mixed by Jesse Gottlieb, Willards’ bass player. The album is a mix of soft and upbeat songs with classical structures like La Morena, electronica on Lili’s Day, and fusion jams on Hemavati. Morning Sun, Caplan’s newfound confidence as an artist and his collaboration with Abowd are honest expressions of his lifelong musical experience. They have put it in a modern context and made it ready for a new generation. http://www.gadicaplan.com/
