Gary Chandler

Gary Chandler, the trumpeter, was first noticed by Bob Porter through Charles Earland dates, including Living Black!. The record features a stellar supporting cast that includes guitarist Cornell Dupree and Ceasar Frazier as well as tenor Harold Ousley and drummer Idris Mohammed. It is not a collection of songs but a long, steamroller groove. Although DJs and crate diggers have long sought “Baby Let Me Have You (In My Arms”)” since its inception, almost every song on Outlook deserves to be sampled. Reissued on CD as half of a Westbound 2-fer with Bill Mason’s Gettin’ Off in 1999. Jason Ankeny (AMG), review
