Gary Thomas has been a professional bass player for over ten years. Gary Thomas spent his childhood in North Florida as a musician and moved to Miami to study music in 2007. The University of Miami has awarded him both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Gary studied under the guidance of Chuck Bergeron and Terence Blanchard. He also learned from Dave Holland. Gary began writing original music in Miami and was able to lead several ensembles. Gary has been featured in Downbeat Magazine as a composer, and has also participated in Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Gary performed with Ira Sullivan and Shelly Berg as well as the Woody Herman Orchestra. Gary is a freelance artist and group leader who continues to perform throughout south Florida.
