Gene Barge, born August 9, 19926, is an American tenor/alto saxophonist. He has also been a composer in many bands. He was a founding member the 1960s group The Church Street Five. He was born in Norfolk (USA). The #1 song charted by The Dovells was “The Bristol Stomp”, which is a reference to Bristol, PA (USA). It also includes the line “We ponied, twisted, and we rocked together with Daddy G.” Many people used the pseudonym Daddy G to Gene Barge, who had co-written “A night with Daddy ’G’ – Part 1″ and “A Night with Daddy ’G’ – Part 2″ (Legrand LEG 1004). It is unknown if the ‘Daddy G” of the 1961 song lyric was Gene Barge or Bishop Daddy Grace, a Norfolk, Virginia evangelist who inspired the naming.
