Clarksdale, Mississippi native George Caldwell. Caldwell began his career with Clifford Jordan. He then followed Mulgrew Miller to the piano chair at the Duke Ellington Orchestra. This led to seven years of service with The Count Basie Orchestra under Frank Foster. Caldwell has been a bandstand companion to many great musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry, Quincy Jones. Caldwell’s discography features five albums with the Basie group: ‘The Count Basie Orchestra at El Morrocco’; ‘Basie’s Bag’; ‘Joe Williams u0026 The Count Basie Orchestra at Orchestra Hall’; ‘Jazzin’ live at The Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild w/ The New York Voices’. His arrangements and original compositions have been featured on Craig Bailey’s ‘A New Journey’ and Lewis Nash’s’s’s ‘, Hank Crawford’ and Bill Easley’s ‘. Caldwell attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Memphis State University. Caldwell was awarded the Ralph Bunche Fellowship at Rutgers University for masters work. He has also received many prestigious awards over his career. He is currently compiling material to record a recording that will include both his original compositions and his arrangements of songs from the American standard songbook.
