George Wein

His main contribution to jazz was his organizing and booking of festivals, including Newport in 1954 (which he founded in 1954), and Storyville in the 1950s. Wein is a great Earl Hines-inspired pianist and occasional singer, who is comfortable in swing and Dixieland-oriented settings. Since the 1950s, he has been touring and recording with his Newport All-Stars. They include clarinetist PeeWee Russell and Bud Freeman, and later Scott Hamilton, who plays tenor and Warren Vache, on an occasional basis. Allmusic
