Gerald Wiggins

Gerald Wiggins was an extremely flexible pianist, comfortable in bop or swing settings. However, his best performances were when he performed with his longtime trio which also included Andy Simpkins and Paul Humphrey. Wiggins’ swinging style was reminiscent of Art Tatum and Erroll Garner, but it was still very distinctive. When he was four years old, “The Wig” began piano lessons. He then switched to jazz when he was a teenager. While attending New York City’s High School of Music, he doubled as a bass player.
