Gordian Knot, an all-instrumental band that mixed prog metal with jazz fusion and the more ethereal sounds from King Crimson was the brainchild of Sean Malone (bassist/stick player/keyboardist), and several other collaborators like Trey Gunn (King Crimson guitarist) and Sean Reinert (former Cynic drummer). Gordian Knot also featured Glenn Snelwar and Ron Jarzombek as guitarists. The group played heavy, atmospheric progressive music and also included pieces that were heavily influenced by Eastern cultures. Malone quickly began work on a sequel, with a new lineup of prog rock guests including ex-Gems guitarist Steve Hackett as well as former Yes drummer Bill Bruford. Allmusic
