Green Room

David Garrett, Chick Lyall, and David Baird, percussionists, started out as a trio. They created a musical language that drew on many sources, including jazz, classical music, and the radical sonic experiments by John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and ‘classical music’. Combining traditional instruments like pianos, drums, and guitars with electronic sounds generated by computers can be achieved. Chick Lyall, David Garrett and others have been developing the music of Green Room since 1998. They combine live improvisation with computer-generated sequences. They produce a wider range of colours on UNDERTOW. Multi timbral explorations are combined with detuned acoustic instruments, flutes, sampling and electronic programming. Both composition and improvisation are possible simultaneously. The music is achieved through a dialectic between structure and freedom. CDBaby
