Guy Mintus

Guy Mintus, a pianist, composer, and educator from Israel, is based in New York. Guy Mintus is deeply rooted in Jazz and classical music, but he also enjoys studying the mediterranean musical traditions. He often travels to study and perform with the masters. He combines this knowledge to create a genuine and organic synthesis of musical cultures through compositions and performances that “keep the whole hall listening with held breath” (Barka Fabianova and Full Moon Zine Magazine). His passion for melodious compositions blend influences from Stride piano to Ottoman Makams and Indian rhythms to Bach’s counterpoint. He also incorporates Spanish Flamenco and Jewish melodies in his unique style. Arturo O’Farrill, a Grammy-winning composer and pianist said that Guy is a mad scientist. “No one does it like him.” Guy’s debut record as a trio, “A Home In Between”, was selected by DownBeat Magazine as their Editor’s Pick in June 2017. His awards include the 2nd prize for the audience’s vote at Montreux Jazz Festival’s solo piano competition, two ASCAP “Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Awards” and full scholarships to Berklee College of Music and the Manhattan School of Music. Guy has been commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra and Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. He also composed for the Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra, Imani Chamber Winds Festival’s solo piano competition, as well as the Allumer Horn Quartet, Allumer Horn Quartet, and the Schwarz Foundation. Guy’s previous recordings include a debut album with the Offlines Project, a duo Guy co-leads along with Israeli-Turkish percussionist/oudist Yinon Murallem, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra, the Imani Chamber Winds Festival, the Xelana Duo, the Allumer Horn Quartet, and the Schwarz Foundation.
