Hadley Caliman

Hadley Caliman was born January 12, 1932 in Idabel Oklahoma and died September 8, 2010. He was an American bebop saxophone player and flute player. Caliman studied at Jefferson High School alongside trumpeter Art Farmer, and Dexter Gordon, a fellow saxophonist. He recorded or performed with Joe Henderson, Earl Hines and Freddie Hubbard as well as with Earl Anderza and many other jazz greats. He was briefly a member in the late 1960s of a jazz-rock Fusion group, led by Ray Draper. In 1971, he recorded his first solo album. Caliman led a quintet and a quartet in the Seattle area throughout the 1990s and 2000s. He also served on the music faculty of Cornish College of the Arts and gave private lessons to musicians. Caliman, 78, died in September 2010 from liver cancer.
