Harvie S (harvie Swartz)

Harvie S is an award-winning composer, arranger and bassist. He also teaches and produces. He is a legendary bassist who has recorded and performed with Stan Getz and Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon and Tony Bennett. You can hear him on twenty CDs as a leader, fifteen CDs as co-leader, and more than four hundred CDs as sideman. These recordings include his work as a leader with James Brown, Chick Corea and Tom Harrell. “Witchcraft”, a duo album with jazz master Kenny Barron, was released by High Note Savant in January 2013. Harvie S was chosen as a Jazz Ambassador for America and toured across Europe and Southeast Asia in that honor. He was a guest on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” and “Fresh Air.” Leonard Feather’s Encyclopedia of Jazz includes information about his career, including the Grove Dictionary of Jazz, All Music Guide and Leonard Feather. Mr. S was responsible for the music themes of the documentaries The Trumpet Kings and The Piano Legends. Harvie S has been featured both in print and online articles in The New York Times and The New York Post. Harvie S has performed at The Blue Note and The Kennedy Center, The Iridium.
