Hashem Assadullahi

Hashem Assadullahi, a New York City saxophonist and bandleader, is also a music educator. Hashem has performed music from the swing era’s big bands to modern styles. Hashem founded his Quintet in 2008, which included some of the finest musicians from the Pacific Northwest and Ron Miles, the trumpet legend. Since then, the group has grown to a sextet, and has recorded two albums, Strange Neighbor (8bells 014) and Pieces (2OA2 records, pending publication). Hashem has led groups that featured some of the most talented Jazz musicians in the world, such as Ben Monder, Mark Ferber and Rich Perry. He has recorded with many ensembles and released albums, including Live at Jo Fed’s With the Poisonous birds (June 2008), The Turning Point (8bells 015) and Walking Across (8bells 016). Rivers Music (Origin Classical OC33012), Awake Awake (pending publication) and The Bright and Rushing World with the Anywhen Ensemble (pending publication). He has also taught music and directed many ensembles at several institutions, including Mahidol University, Salaya, Thailand, Lane Community College and the University of Oregon. Hashem is often an adjudicator and clinician in the United States and internationally. Hashem earned his Bachelors of Music Education at the University of Texas in Arlington, and his Masters of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon. from http://hashemjazz.com
