Heath Watts, a soprano-saxophonist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, specializes in free jazz and improvisation. Three albums have been released by Watts on Leo Records and Sensoria. Roeba Records issued Philadelphia Company #1 in 2007 along with Watts, Dan Pell (drummer), and Barry Chabala (guitarist). In 2007, he self-published the album 2x, which he co-produced with pianist Alexandra Swaney. Heath is a specialist in soprano jazzophone and counts John Coltrane (Steve Lacy), Evan Parker, David Liebman, Lol Coxhill, and John Coltrane as major influences. He relied heavily upon the pedagogical material of NEA Jazz Master David Liebman while learning how to play the soprano saxophone. Heath has performed with David Liebman and Sam Newsome as well as Vinny Golia and Andrew Cyrille.
