Henry Busse was born and raised in Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1916, where he worked as a trumpet player in a pit band at a movie theatre. After forming his own band, he toured the country before settling in San Francisco. He was a trumpet player with the Frisco Jass Band in 1917 and joined the Paul Whiteman Orchestra in 1918. Whiteman’s Orchestra was greatly helped by Busse. He was the co-composer of many of the band’s first hits, including “Hot Lips”, and “Wang Wang Blues”. Busse was with Whiteman from 1928 until 1928, when he formed his own band, the Henry Busse Orchestra. The group, which was more a sweet dance band than jazz band, had a long and successful career. They continued to record and perform up until Busse’s death in 1955. from http://www.redhotjazz.com
