Ian Shaw, a Welsh jazz singer and record producer, was born 2 June 1962. Shaw was born in St. Asaph (Wales) and received his music degree from the University of London. In the 1980s, Shaw began his career as a performer on the Alternative Cabaret circuit, along with such artists as Rory Bremner, Julian Clary and Jo Brand. He was also playing at festivals and piano bars in London, Europe and elsewhere. He recorded with Carol Grimes in 1990, and toured Europe. Shaw has been a regular performer in duos with other singers like Claire Martin, Linda Lewis and Liane Carroll since then. In the mid-1990s, Shaw was performing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He also released two albums in 1995 on Jazzhouse’s Jazzhouse label Ghosthouse and a tribute of Richard Rodgers. Shaw was a member of the ‘Very Big Band’ that toured the UK in 1996. By the end of his 90s, he was regularly performing in America. He released In A New York Minute, the first of his two albums on New York’s Milestone record label. This and Soho Stories were released in 2001 and featured many US musicians, including Eric Alexander, Lew Soloff, and Cedar Walton. From 2003, A World Still Turning saw him work with Peter Washington and Billy Childs. Mark Murphy was also a guest singer. http://www.bbc.co.uk
