Ignasi Terraza

Ignasi Terza, born in 1962, has been a key figure in the Barcelona Jazz scene since 1980. His unique style has made him one of the most sought-after accompanists in Barcelona. He can be found backing up many American musicians such as Gene “Mighty Flea”, Conners and Teddy Edwards. Since its founding members, Terraza has been a key member of the Barcelona Jazz Orchestra. Terraza’s favourite setting is his trio. Regular partners include bassists Pierre Boussaguet or Darryl Hall or Horacio, and drummers Gregory Hutchinson or Bobby Durham, Jeff Hamilton or Leon Parker. Terraza was influenced by Wynton Kelly, Ahmad Jamal and Oscar Peterson. He is also rooted in classic jazz tradition. Terraza has been busy over the past ten years, playing in festivals and clubs in Spain, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. The Ignasi-Terraza trio has also been on two tours of Asia, in China, The Philippines, and Thailand. Ignasi Terza was named the winner of The Great American Jazz Piano Competition’s 25th Edition on May 21, 2009. This competition has been held in Jacksonville, Florida since 1983. The special award has been won in previous editions by Kenny Drew Jr., Lynne Arriale and Marcus Roberts.
