Iron Kim Style was formed in the early part of the 21st century by veteran Seattle based bassist Ryan Berg. Other members include guitarist Dennis Rea, who brings lengthy credentials in musical fields as diverse as avant-jazz, progressive rock and traditional Asian music, trumpeter Bill Jones, guitarist Thaddeus Brophy and drummer Jay Jaskot. Some of the band’s influences include Oliver Messiaen, electric period Miles Davis, Terje Rypdal, John Abercrombie, hard rock, and North Korean martial music. Although much of their music is improvised, they avoid the usual clichés and create music that sounds as if it was carefully composed.
