John Wardle was Wobble’s father. He was also a friend of Johnny Rotten, Sex Pistols’ singer. Rotten founded Public Image Ltd. and Wobble was appointed bass player after the breakup of the Pistols. After the first album, Wobble fell out with Lydon (now Lydon), and Keith Levene, the guitarist. He left for a solo career and collaborated with artists like Jaki Liebezeit, Holger Czukay, and U2’s The Edge. Wobble’s solo music ranges from pop, pseudo-reggae, and “difficult listen to” experimentation. His career went downhill in the late 1980s and he was employed to sweep train stations. Invaders Of The Heart was formed by Justin Adams and Wobble, who began to listen to music from the Middle East, North Africa, and Eastern Europe. Wobble was brought back to public attention by the single “Bomba” in 1990. He also collaborated with Sinead O’Connor, Primal Scream and released the Invaders album Rising Above Bedlam in 1991. He released Take Me to God three years later. It featured several guest appearances by Gavin Friday. He released Psalms in 1995. This was followed by The Inspiration Of William Blake in 1996. Wobble started his own label 30 Hertz in 1997 to release Jah Wobble Presents The Light Programme. The following year, Umbra Sumus was released. Wobble released Deep Space in 1999. Jaki Liebezeit and Bill Laswell made guest appearances. Wobble was prolific in the new century. In spring 2000, Full Moon Over the Shopping Mall was his first release. He followed that with Molam Dub in the fall. Passage to Hades was released in spring 2001 by Evan Parker. Wobble started a series interconnected, sometimes short-lived, collaborative groups in 2002 to carry out specific projects. First, Temple of Sound, which included Natasha Atlas and Nina Miranda, released Shout At the Devil. Solaris: Live in Concert, which was released the same year, reunited Wobble and Liebezeit with Harold Budd, pianist, and Graham Haynes. Wobble was assisted by Clive Bell, Reed, and Harry Beckett (trumpeter), who helped with Fly’s nocturnal club music later in the year. Five Beats He revived a previous group, Deep Space, in 2003. The original members of this version were Philip Jeck, drummer Mark Sanders, Beckett, Chris Cookson, and guitarist Chris Cookson. Cat Von Trapp was also included. The full-length Five Beats was released by them. Bell, Rasle and Cookson would continue playing with Wobble through the decade, regardless of the band. This is evident by the ambitious English Roots Music (credited as his Invaders of the Heart Project with Liz Carter singing). He also composed the soundtrack for the French film Fureur (Fury), which EastWest commissioned. B.J. Wobble is a pedal steel legend. Cole, Bell, Cookson, u0026 Beckett recorded the nocturnal jazz-dub album Elevator Music, Vol. 1A in 2004. Trojan Records later honored Wobble with a three-disc retrospective entitled I Could Have Been A Contender, which covered his entire career. Trojan Records issued the dub album MU in 2005. Two Wobble offerings were issued in 2006: The completely solo Alpha-One Three, titled after his taxi driver handle, which was released in July and Jah Wobble.
