Guitar Player Magazine calls him “… the blazing wonderkind.” He has been declared “… the WOW by The Boston Phoenix factor.” New York City’s award-winning jazz composer and guitarist Jake Hertzog is making waves. Jake’s third studio album Evolution [Buckyball Records], was released in August 2011. It has quickly gained international attention. Jake’s second album, Patterns [Buckyball Records], and Jake’s debut album Chromatosphere (2008) won him critical acclaim. A five-page interview in Guitar Player Magazine (June 2009), highlighted his unique approach to modern jazz guitar playing and technique. Joshua Paul Thompson, a Grammy Award winner, recorded both albums and produced them. Jake, alias Hey Jazz Guy is a monthly contributor for Guitar Player Magazine’s “Lessons” section. He is known as the Jazz ambassador for the non-jazz community. Jake was the musical director, lead guitarist, and mentor of Nickelodeon’s The Naked Brothers Band stars Nat Wolff and Alex Wolff for three years. They have been on two national tours, and performed on many national television shows, including The View, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and The Today Show. Among their past achievements is the 2006 Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition Grand Prize. Jake is the youngest winner of the competition’s prizes at twenty years old. In 2007, he was invited back to Montreux Jazz Festival to perform his original music. Jake graduated from the Berklee College of Music, and was awarded several performance scholarships. Jake’s contributions to rock music include the success of Wakey Wakey in New York, the pop world with Nat Wollf and his expertise in Jazz. He is also a leader in the fusion world. Jake Hertzog’s current trio, which includes legendary jazz musicians Harvie and Victor Jones on the drums, have performed all over the country.
