James Copus, a jazz trumpet player and award winner, is quickly establishing himself as one the most exciting players on the London trumpet scene. James was raised in a musical family and began playing the trumpet at age 8. After completing the Junior Jazz course at the Royal Academy of Music, he went on to complete the full-time program and graduated with first-class honours. He was a proud recipient the Derek Watkins Award. James studied with Gerard Presencer and Till Bronner. He also credits Steve Fishwick as a major influence on his playing. James has had the honor of recording and playing alongside some of the most well-known musicians in the world, including Stan Sulzmann (Tim Garland), Stan Sulzmann (Tim Garland), Gareth Lockrane (Gareth Lockrane), Laurence Cottle and Clark Tracey. James is a session musician, commercial trumpet player and has recorded and performed with Louisa Johnson and Gregory Porter. He has performed at many venues, including The Royal Albert Hall and The Barbican. You can find him playing in the west side. James can be heard at many venues across the country performing with bands like the Alex Hitchcock Quintet and Ralph Wyld’s Mosaic.
