Jason Palmer

Jason Palmer is a trumpeter, composer, arranger, educator and actor. Jason Palmer will be touring in Portugal and Spain this Fall. He will also be performing on the East Coast Tour Of The Miles Davis Experience 1949-1959. This is a collaboration with Blue Note Records. See “Schedule” for dates. Jason spent the past summer touring Austria, Germany, and was featured at numerous festivals on the East Coast and Canada. He also spent a week with FLY at Langnau Jazz Nights in Langnau Switzerland. Jason was also awarded Fellow in composition by the Massachusetts Cultural Council in 2011. Jason has collaborated with iconic musicians such as Roy Haynes and Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Smith (the pianist), Wynton Marsalis (the orchestral player), Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kurt Rushen, Clarence Penn and Jeff Ballard. Jason won the 2009 Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition 1st place ($10,000). Downbeat Magazine’s June 2007 issue referred to Jason as one the “Top 25 future trumpeters”. Jason is currently a Steeplechase Records Recording artist and has performed on more than a dozen albums as a sideman. His debut album, “Songbook”, (Ayva Musica), features guest saxophonists Ravi Coltrane u0026 Greg Osby. It received rave reviews and was included on numerous “Best of 2008” lists, including All Music Guide’s top jazz albums list. Jason has toured extensively around the world with Greg Osby and Grace Kelly’s 5tet. He also performed with Matana Robert’s Mississippi Moonchile and The Round Trip Trio (France). Jason’s quintet has been performing every weekend at Boston’s historic Wally’s Jazz Cafe since the beginning of the last eleven years. The Boston Phoenix named his band the “Best Jazz Act” in 2011. His band has performed at the Tanglewood Jazz Fest and Sculler’s Jazz Club in NYC. He also presented the band at the Stone and the Jazz Gallery, NYC and Hartford Ct., and many other venues throughout New England. Jason was selected by the Massachusetts Cultural Council as an Artist Fellow for Music Composition in 2011. The Festival of New Trumpet Music in NYC commissioned Jason Palmer to premiere a new work (based upon a Sudoku game) with his Jazz Standard quintet. Jason Palmer is a performer and educator. He is currently the Assistant Professor of Ensembles at Berklee College of Music, Boston. In 2008-09, Jason commuted from Boston to New York City as a faculty member at the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Jason has been teaching trumpet for eleven years, and has directed ensembles in New England Conservatory’s Prep and SCE Divisions. He has also been the Mission Hill School’s woodwind and brass director for six years. From 2004 to 2010, he was a faculty member at Aquinas College Jazz Camp in Grand Rapids, MI. Master classes have been given by Mr. Palmer in Portugal, France and the UK. Jason, who uses his trumpeting skills in a different medium, is the lead actor in Guy and Madeline On a Park Bench, written and directed Damien Chazelle. After its premiere at Tribeca Film Festival 2009, the movie received rave reviews. The film was shown at numerous film festivals around the world, including in Australia, Bratislava (MA), Bratislava (MA), Houston (MA), Seattle (Canada), Los Angeles (Canada), Minneapolis (CA), and many other cities.
