Jasper Blom (1965), is a prominent tenor and soprano jazz saxophonist in the Dutch jazz scene. He is also one of the most versatile players of the Benelux. He has performed with Lee Konitz and Chet Baker, Nat Adderley (Bob Brookmeyer), George Duke, Randy Crawford. Conrad Herwig, Dick Oatts, and other internationally renowned artists. He has been awarded the European Jazz Competition twice and has performed at major jazz clubs and festivals around the globe. Blom has been awarded composition assignments by the North Sea Jazz Festival as well as the Jazz International Rotterdam Festival. He also participated in the international Saxophone festival SAX14. He has recorded eight CDs as a leader, with music that ranges from hardbop to free improvised music. Jasper Blom is currently active as a composer and player of contemporary improvised jazz music. He can also be heard in Europe and the Netherlands as an active player in various musical settings. He also teaches jazz saxophone lessons at the conservatory. Jasper Blom is the leader of a quartet that includes Martijn Vink, a European star drummer and Jesse van Ruller, a Monk Award-winning top guitarist. The band will release a double CD of live performances featuring Bert Joris, Nils Wogram and others on London’s Whirlwind Records label in January 2019. Blom is co-leader of Ensemble, a l’improviste devoted to French Impressionism music. Jasper Blom is part of the current Big Band Ensemble of David Kweksilber.
