Jeff Albert is a trombonist and improviser, composer, and music technologist who is based in New Orleans. Jeff’s music is influenced by his diverse experiences and background. It places a high value on melody, interaction and melody. Jeff’s music has been described by David Biedney as “unreal, gorgeous and crazy, rudely awake” and Cadence Magazine says that he has a constant flow of enthusiasm and continuity. Jeff also has several ongoing musical projects. The Jeff Albert Quintet is a group that performs Jeff’s compositions, many of which are based on the free jazz tradition. Ray Moore plays saxes and Chris Alford plays guitar. Jesse Morrow plays bass. Doug Garrison plays drums. Dave Cappello, a master drummer, is half of the Dave Cappello/Jeff Albert duo that performs entirely improvised music. Jeff Albert’s Instigation Quartet, an ensemble featuring changing personnel creates improvised music using a consistent set gestural/textural directions. Instigation Quartet members include Jeff Parker, Josh Abrams and Quin Kirchner. Jeff, Nick Hwang, and Corey Knoll are also members of the improvising laptop group the 3 Computeers. Jeff currently serves on Loyola University New Orleans’ Music Technology faculty. He has also served on the faculties of Xavier University of Louisiana and the University of New Orleans. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Loyola New Orleans and a Master of Music from the University of New Orleans. He is currently a PhD Candidate for Experimental Music.
