Jere Haakana Varjosto is a jazz quartet with rock roots that was formed in 2016. Their music blends powerful compositions with cinematic soundscapes, rhythmic energy, and improvisation drawn from jazz tradition. The electric guitar sounds and composition-focused music appeal to jazz fans as well as those less familiar with the traditional jazz ensemble sound. Varjosto celebrated the release of their debut album during the Jazz Finland tour in Mai 2019. Jere Haakana, a composer and guitarist born in 1982, is free-spirited. Jazz music is often confined to a narrow box. He has also led his Varjosto Quartet, played contemporary jazz with Kasperi Sarikoski’s nuance, performed hip hop in Redrama’s band, and big band music for UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra.
