Jesse Van Ruller

Jesse van Ruller began playing guitar at 7 years of age. He studied with Wim Overgaauw, a Dutch jazzguitar master. He graduated from the Hilversum Conservatorium in 1995. He also won the Thelonius Monk Competition, Washington that year. John Scofield was joined by Jim Hall, Pat Metheny and Pat Martino. His 1996 debut album, ‘European Quintet’, received much attention. His quartets, trios and duos took him to many places with them during the years that followed. Jesse van Ruller recorded 10 CDs as a leader over the years and was also a sideman on many others. He was a member of many orchestras and musicians. Jim Hall, Pat Metheny and Bill Stewart were among his many guests. He has toured extensively with Eric Vaarzon Morel, a Dutch flamenco virtuoso with whom he created a repertoire for flamenco-jazz.
