Jessica Williams

Jessica Williams, an American composer and pianist, is a deep rooted Jazz Tradition musician. Her style draws from Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Thelonious Monk. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 17, 1948, she is now a musician and composer. She began lessons at the age of seven at the Peabody Conservatory of Music to become classically trained. In her teens, she moved to Philadelphia and started playing drums with Philly Joe Jones (drummer for the Miles Davis Quintet). She has been nominated for two Grammys. Her 1986 album Nothin’ But the Truth won a Grammy. In late 2004, her album LIVE At Yoshi’s Volume One received a Grammy nomination. She moved to California in her twenties and played in bands such as Dexter Gordon and Tony Williams. Over 40 albums have been released by her, including Time to Burn On Red and Blue (a trio with Dave Captein and Mel Brown); Some Ballads Some Blues On Red and Blue (3-piece w/ Dave Captein and Mel Brown); Jessica Plays For Lovers on Red u0026 Blue (solo piano); Live at Yoshi’s Vol. One and Two on Maxjazz (a trio with Ray Drummond and Victor Lewis).
