John Daniel Ray, a progressive jazz composer and bassist, owns a production company called Mr. Haircut. In his 20-year career, he has worked with hundreds of musicians and bands, including the Allman Brothers and the Roots. John is a member of Vintage Astronaut, his original progressive jazz/electronic band. This project uses computers to improvise and incorporates electronic sounds into live performances. He performs with Noobious, which is a videogame music cover band. RKIII, an experimental electro band. Lucky Pocket, a party/dance band. John also produces and hosts Mr. Haircut, a podcast with Jonathan Greene, the renowned drummer. John has composed commission work and orchestrated music for many ensembles, including a string quartet, handbell chorus, and voice choir. He also teaches middle school students improv classes. John has toured the country with many bands since 2000. He appeared 5 times with The Allman Brothers and toured for 5 years with The Embers. He also co-founded Solos Unit’s early 2000 hip hop band Solos Unit. He also shared the stage with The Roots and Gap Band, Common and Oteil Burbridge.
