John Ellis is widely known as New York’s most prominent tenor saxophone voice. John Ellis has been a sideman to many artists, including Dr. Lonnie Smith, bass legend John Patitucci, and Miguel Zenon (MacArthur Fellow), who have performed extensively throughout the world over the past 20 years. John has more than 100 albums credits and can be heard alongside artists such as Charlie Hunter, Robert Glasper Darcy James Archer, Edward Simon, Edward Simon, Sting, and Darcy James. John was 2nd in the 2002 Thelonious Monk Saxophone Competition. He was also the recipient of three composition grants from The Jazz Gallery to create new work (“Dreamscapes”, “The Ice Siren”, or “MOBRO”). In addition, he was named the 2014 Make Jazz Fellow at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica. John has seven albums to his credit as a leader. Two of them feature Double-Wide, a New Orleans-based band that has toured extensively.
