Patitucci is a top-notch bassist of the 1990s, on both electric and acoustic. His speed, clarity of tone and versatility are truly remarkable. Patitucci started playing bass at the age of 11. He grew up in Northern California and moved to Los Angeles in 1978. While attending college, he played with Gap Mangione (1979), and worked in Los Angeles from 1982 to 1985 with Stan Getz and Tom Scott. He also became a studio musician. He gained fame in 1985 when he joined Chick corea’s Akoustic and Electric bands. Patitucci recorded and toured extensively with Corea, and also made several sessions for Stretch and GRP. John Patitucci resigned from the Electric Band in early ’90s, but continued to work with Corea occasionally. Text contributed by users is available under Creative Commons By–SA License.
