John Turville

John Turville is a jazz pianist of international standing. His two albums, Trio, won numerous awards, including MOJO’s #3 Jazz Album Of The Year (2012) and the Parliamentary Awards 2011’s Best Album. He was also awarded ‘Best Instrumentalist” in the London Jazz Awards 2010 and 2009 PRS Promoter’s Choice Award 2009. In 2010, he was a semi-finalist at the Martial Solal Jazz Piano Concours 2010. He has toured Europe and the Middle East and recorded with many well-known tango and jazz groups including the Dave Binney/Julian Arguelles quintet and Tim Garland. He was also a semi-finalist in the Martial Solal Jazz Piano Concours 2010. John is the leader of the tango quintet Almagro Ensemble and the E17 Large Ensemble. He also co-leads Solstice with Brigitte Beraha, Tori Freestone, and Sabina Racheyeva. He is an accomplished arranger and composer for strings, voices and jazz, as well as an educator. John is the main jazz piano tutor at Birmingham Conservatoire, the Purcell School, and has also coached and adjudicated ensembles in the Guildhall and Trinity College.
