Johnny Butler was born in Seattle, WA, to musical parents. He began exploring music as a child, playing the saxophone for hours and writing on the piano. In middle school, he started his first band and began to play in bars and clubs around Seattle. He played with jazz groups, rock bands, and hip-hop artists. Johnny was a member of the high school band that included Reggie Watts (Santana), Michael Shrieve (Santana), Wynton Marsalis and Skerik. He won many awards and was highly praised and toured America and Europe. Johnny attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music after high school to study jazz composition and classical composition. He was then selected to be a member of the Oberlin Jazz Septet, a nationally touring ensemble. Johnny has recorded, performed and written with many of his musical idols over the years. These include playing with Beyonce, Warren Haynes and Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Joe Lally (Fugazi), Strangefolk, Strangefolk, StrangeCreek, La La Brooks of Phil Spector’s Crystals, The Skeletons Big Band and Trombone Shorty at events such as Mountain Jam and Montreux Jazz Festivals, San Sabastian Jazz Festivals, Bear Creek, Telluride Jazz Festivals in New Orleans, North Sea Jazz Festival and Bonnaroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Fest in New Orleans, North Sea Jazz Festivals Jazz Festivals Jazz Festivals Jazz Festivals and Bonnarooooooooooooooooooooooooo Fest in New Orleans Jazz Festivals in New Orleans, North Sea Jazz Festival and Jazz Festival in Jazz Festival and Voooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Jazz Festival in Bonnarooooo Fest in New Orleans Jazz Festival and Bear Creek Jazz Festival in New Orleans Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival and Bonnarooooooooooooooooooooo Festival in New Orleans Jazz Festival and Oberlin Jazz Festival in New Orleans. Butler’s live shows are a display of amazing improvisation and beautiful electronic music. Johnny Butler’s music is groove-driven, but he also uses richly textured sound design. His music is rhythmically fractured, but melodically rich, and brings the artist face to face with a creative legacy that spans generations. He was also influenced by Intelligent dance Music and boom-bap hip hop like Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Butler arrived in Brooklyn as a founding member for Sister Sparrow.
