Johnny Griffith, a multi-Juno Award nominee, is a saxophonist. He has recorded and played with many artists, including Jeremy Pelt and Hawksley Workman. He has performed at many international jazz festivals and music festivals across North America, including the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Johnny was most recently part of the Griffith Hiltz Trio, Nathan Hiltz and Sly Jhas. He has travelled extensively from Victoria to the Yukon to St. John’s, picking up a Grand Prix du Jazz nomination during the Montreal Jazz Festival. Jazz FM 91.1 selected their debut album, “Now and Then”, as Album of The Year 2009. It was produced by Don Thompson. Their second album, which was produced by Hawksley Workman (multi-Juno winner and Canadian auteur), has been completed. It will be out in the fall 2013. The Big 8 is Johnny’s octet that performs all original songs and includes top Toronto talent Alex Dean and Terry Promane, Shawn Nykwist, Shawn Nykwist, Nathan Hiltz, Jon Maharaj, Shawn Nykwist, Shawn Nykwist, Shawn Nykwist, and Shawn Nykwist. The duo woodwind/percussion album will be released this fall with Hawksley Workman. A Quintet album will also be available featuring Jeremy Pelt, Downbeat’s rising star trumpet player. Johnny was born in St. Bonafice Manitoba and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Humber College. He also holds a Master’s in Jazz Performance from the University of Toronto.
