Jon-erik Kellso

Jon-Erik Kellso, a trumpeter, began playing professionally in Detroit, Michigan in which he was born in 1964. Jon started playing at an early age, in a big band when he was 11, and in the International Youth Symphony when he was 13. He also performed in a concert with Wild Bill Davison in age 17. Kellso was a member of many groups, including the J.C. Heard Orchestra. Jon-Erik was a member of James Dapogny’s Chicago Jazz Band in 1988. He has performed all over North America with them, as well as concertized on PBS TV. Also, he recorded extensively with Maria Muldaur, including “Naughty Bawdy and Blue” and a DVD. Jon moved to New York City to join Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks in 1989. He has enjoyed recording and performing with the likes Dan Barrett, Marty Grosz and Milt Hinton. Recent engagements include a tour of Brazil, with Judy Carmichael, and several appearances on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” live Public Radio International program; several concerts at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with John Lithgow; concerts at Jazzland in Vienna with Ken Peplowski’s Kingdom of Swing bigband; concerts as a soloist in the U.K., Germany, and Australia; as well as appearances at jazz festivals in New Orleans and at festivals and clubs and at festivals in New Orleans and at Jazz parties and at festivals and at festivals and at various festivals and at jazz parties and at festivals and at jazz parties and at festivals and at jazz parties in the United States and at festivals and at jazz parties and at festivals and at jazz parties and at festivals and at jazz parties at festivals and at jazz parties in the United States and at jazz festivals and at jazz parties at jazz festivals and at jazz festivals in the United States as well as well as at jazz festivals and at jazz parties and at jazz parties and at festivals Kellso is also a member of Dapognys’ and Giordanos’s (Matt Munisteri’s) Brock Mumford, the (Orange Kellin’s) Manhattan Ragtime Orchestra and David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Centennial Band, a.k.a. The Gully Low Jazz Band. Kellso can often be heard on many television and movie soundtracks. This includes the Nickelodeon children’s program “Blue’s Clues” and the recent films “Ghost World”, “The Aviator”, and “The Good Shepherd” featuring Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks. Wynton Marsalis recorded Jon on a soundtrack session for “Bolden,” a movie about Buddy Bolden, a legendary New Orleanian cornetist. Jon has recorded many times with Arbors Records, including three as a leader and two together with Ruby Braff. Jon pays tributes to Braff in his “Remembering Ruby”, CD on Gen-Erik Records. “Blue Roof Blues, A Love Letter To New Orleans” is Jon’s latest Arbors album.
