Joyce Collins

Joyce Collins, a fine pianist/vocalist who is based in Los Angeles and has been a jazz educator since 1955. She was also with Oscar Pettiford (1955), before moving to Los Angeles. In the late 1950s, she was a regular collaborator with Bob Cooper at The Lighthouse and also recorded a trio album in 1960 for Riverside. Collins performed with her trio in Europe and Mexico, and recorded with Gene Estes Big Band (1969). She also toured with Paul Horn in 1969. However, she has mostly been working locally, including in the studios. She recorded and played with Bill Henderson, and she led record sessions for Audiophile (1990) and Discovery (1981). Allmusic
