Juan Pablo Carletti was born on January 12, 1989 in Buenos Aires. Carletti was raised in a musical family where his father was a percussionist. He immediately fell in love with the drums. He performed in a variety bands and he mainly focused on improvised music. He started working with his own projects and established a small label that was dedicated to new music. Juan visited New York City in 2005 to play with the David Haney Group at Cornelia street Cafe. He was fortunate to meet influential musicians like Tony Malaby and Tom Rainey on this trip. He moved to America one year later to continue his musical journey. Juan has a unique approach to playing drums, being influenced by many styles of music, particularly the music from New York City’s avant-garde scene. Juan demonstrates how drums can be used as both a rhythmic instrument and a variety of sounds by using mallets, hands, sticks, and other techniques. His teaching experience played an important role in his transformation of rhythmic visions. Juan was a member of the Tony Malaby, Andrew Cyrille and Mat Maneri. He also played with Chris Hoffman, Chris Hoffman, Angelica Sanchez (Kris Davis), Michael Attias, Rob Brown, and Daniel Levin. He is currently working on his own music and will soon be recording it. from http://juanpablocarletti.wordpress.com
